Early Wireless
This Pye portable was made just after the end of the war with Japan in 1946. During the 1930s, Pye’s motive on their loudspeaker grills was the rising sun. Unfortunately for Pye, and something that they didn’t realise in time, was that the rising sun was also used on Japan’s national flag. No one in the UK wished to carry around a portable radio with their enemies logo on it! Sales collapsed and the rest of production was destroyed. Very few therefore have survived to this day.
