This is Early Television, rather than Wireless. In 1936 the BBC began broadcasting the first high definition television from Alexandra Palace in North London, UK. This site was chosen as it commanded large coverage, being positioned 300 ft above sea level.
The Transmitters were designed and built by the Marconi Company. CAT valves (cooled anode triodes) were used in the final stages of both the sound and vision transmitters. The vision transmitter radiated 17Kw (35Kw ERP) on 45 Megahertz. CAT 9 Valves were used in push pull to deliver this 17 Kw.
Shown here is a CAT 9 valve mounted as an Art Deco ornament! I made the chrome legs and the filament well is illuminated with ultra bright LEDs. Also shown on the photograph is a framed picture of the aerial tower at Alexandra Palace that the valve delivered its power to.
